Dog clothing Yes or No?

In our dog boutique we are always asked whether dog clothing makes sense or is just a fashion statement.

We can only answer with a clear YES.

Why?
Well, for that you have to make a comparison from the past to the dog of today.

Past (the original dog)...
The prehistoric dog (we like to compare him with the Neanderthal man) naturally did not live in a heated flat or house, he adapted to the environment and changed his coat very much, nobody cared if the coat was thick or sparse and also not if he had lost a lot of hair, the dead hair easily stuck between the fur and was stripped off in the bushes. Later, the dog was a companion in the hunt and the protector of house and farm.
He lived outdoors day and night, summer and winter. He had his kennel, his doghouse or, if things got really bad, his chain. He was hardly ever allowed to enter the house, unless he had a very loving master who let him into the house for a short time in the worst temperatures. He had to adapt to the temperatures by himself, and if the dog didn't make it, a new one was brought in. Mother Nature had given him a thick or thin coat against wet, cold and sun. He was robust and hardy and usually did not reach a very old age.
The dog of those days was well fed, albeit sparsely, no canned food no dry food, no salt and no sugar. Diseases such as bronchitis, colds, inflammation of the kidney pelvis, urinary tract infection, rheumatism, hip problems and the like were hardly known to him.
The change (the breeding dog)...
However, man has changed and with him the dog, he became a constant companion and friend. The dog moved into the house with him. He became accustomed to the warmth and the coat was no longer so important for balancing the temperature, also the locomotor system was no longer so strongly supported, because the house and the adjoining garden were no longer as large as the wild. The annoying hair became a problem and with breeding the hair became better and better and the coat more and more beautiful, but lost its resistance. Our houses and flats became smaller and smaller dogs were in demand, so we bred further and further. Smaller and smaller dogs with less and less fur were in demand, until we arrived at the mini dogs, which are in extra demand especially in the cities, but even the big dogs did not remain Neanderthals and often freeze in winter and burn their skin in the sunshine.
Today (the bred dog)...
we find breeds such as Chihuahua, Mini-Yorkshire, Mini-Malteser, Toypoodle etc., many of these dogs have become susceptible to the diseases mentioned above and even the vets who had been so vehemently against pet clothing have changed their minds and now send most of our customers to our dog boutique. Especially dogs that have little or no fur on their bellies have little protection against colds and therefore have to wear dog clothing that is closed on the belly. The salt that is sprinkled against the ice is also very hard on our little ones, so the dogs often don't want to go out at all in winter, but it is not the cold ground but the salt that causes our little darlings pain, so we have also developed care products and shoes for dogs that help our little friends to find their way around in the city. Our central heating systems also mean that today's dogs have little resistance to the flu and colds, so we have to wrap our (especially small) dogs up nice and warm when we go out on the road. We also take our dogs with us on holiday, where there are also dangers of catching viruses that the small organism cannot tolerate. Dog clothing also helps to keep a lot of dirt away from the coat, which the dog transports into the stomach by licking it off.

Older dogs are usually more susceptible than very young ones, so some dogs will initially reject dog clothing if they are not used to it. These dogs should be introduced to the clothing slowly, starting with models that are easy to put on and fit very loosely. Usually the dog gets used to the new protection very quickly and slowly you can try the warmer models that are a bit stiffer.
