We divide the hair scissors or dog scissors into different classes to give you a quick overview.

There are not only different types of dog scissors as already described in the introduction of our dog scissors, but also different quality levels which we have divided into classes.

Directly next to the pet scissors is also the class to help you quickly make the right choice for your needs.

Here we explain the biggest differences between the different classes of dog scissors.

Class 1:	Elite hair scissors which are manufactured on the highest level. These dog scissors are to be used by professional dog hairdressers and by very demanding users, who use the scissors very often and attach particular importance to ease of movement, durability and precision.

Class 3:	High quality dog scissors in good design for regular use. Very often used by mobile dog hairdressers, dog hairdresser beginners and breeders. In contrast to class 1 and 2 hairdressing scissors, these scissors are not quite as smooth and the Japanese steel does not quite match the hardness of class 1 and 2. The cutting quality itself is excellent and durable even with frequent use and care.

Difference between Effiliation and Modelling Scissors.

To make it easier, we have called all the scissors thinning scissors with the addition of single or double sided

The correct name for the double-sided thinning scissors would be thinning scissors and the single-sided thinning scissors would be modelling or blender scissors. However, since there is always confusion, we have simply made it simpler.

The thinning scissors (double sided serrated).

The thinning scissors are serrated on both sides. The blades are alternately notched so that they do not catch all the hair. The thinning scissors cut about 1/3 of the hair of a strand. The thinning scissors should be used by experienced hairdressers because they are more difficult to use and you have to cut very carefully.

The modelling scissors (single serrated)

The bender scissors are only serrated on one side - the other side is smooth. With modelling scissors, about half of the hair of a strand is cut. The modelling scissors can be guided better and more precisely.

Both scissors ensure that the hair is cut in different lengths. This makes the cut look looser and above all very natural. The transitions are also worked on with modelling scissors or thinning scissors to make the possibly hard edges soft and "invisible". However, a line that should be sharp-edged and recognisable as a straight line should always be cut with straight or curved dog scissors.

Scissors Care

Hairdressing scissors must be well cared for for a long and perfect use.

With hair scissors, regardless of their quality level, it is important to carry out basic cleaning regularly to ensure a longer life and longer sharpness. Basic maintenance includes cleaning, oiling and drying. Ideally, the hair scissors should also be disinfected with UV steriliser (steam sterilisers are not recommended).
Even though the GogiPet® Elite Japanese steel scissors are made of 440C Stainless Steel, this means that only the material cannot rust easily, but it is important to maintain the contained carbon and cobalt to ensure a long sharpness.

Clean scissors with a soft scissor cleaning cloth after each use to remove hair and foreign bodies and oil the axial joints so that the scissors still glide well and remain sharp for a long time even after many applications. Use a scissors case so that the scissors remain well protected and cannot fall. (At Onlinezoo you can also get scissor cases including a cleaning set.) UV steriliser are also available at Onlinezoo at a reasonable price.

From time to time pet hair scissors need to be adjusted to ensure a good cut. (For GogiPet dog scissors you do not need any tools for this, just turn the adjusting screw by max. 1/4 turn).

How to adjust the hair scissors correctly:

Under no circumstances should the adjusting screw be turned too tight. This could cause permanent damage to the cutting edge and, in the case of modelling scissors, cause the teeth to become permanently caught. The blades should lie loosely against each other so that straight class 1 and class 2 scissors open by themselves when you open them at an angle of approx. 23º and hold them by a scissor handle. Modelling scissors, class 3 dog scissors and curved scissors should open and close very smoothly without resistance.
If hairs bend off during cutting, the scissors are adjusted too loosely, turn the adjusting screw by 1/16 turn (one click) and continue cutting. If it is still too loose, turn another click.

Dog scissors are precision tools and are very sharp when they are new. To keep them sharp, do not cut matted hair or felt that would damage the cutting edge and shorten the life of your scissors.
Before cutting, the dog must be brushed out washed and felt free.

With thinning scissors and modelling scissors it is particularly important that you never cut into felt or knots, because then the teeth get caught and destroy the hair scissors. Even a cut in a knot can damage the hair scissors to such an extent that they have to be taken to a scissors service.

Scissors become dull after long use, have your scissors sharpened by a specialist in good time. If the scissors should fall down, do not continue working, have them repaired to avoid further damage.

What is the difference between thinning scissors and blender scissors and which one should I use?

Take great care that your dog scissors do not suffer a fall, as this will cause massive damage to the cutting behaviour. In the event of a fall, you should no longer use the dog scissors but send them immediately to the sharpening service to avoid major damage. Care and maintain your hair scissors thoroughly so that you can enjoy them for a long time.

Pet Groomer Vienna Thinning Scissors Tip:

Use blender scissors to thin out the coat. It is very important that you detangle and comb the coat well beforehand, so that the comb glides effortlessly through the coat. Only then can you begin to thin out the coat. If you don't do this, the thinning scissors or blender scissors can get caught in the knotted coat. In this case, the scissors must be taken to the service immediately to avoid irreparable damage.

GogiPet class 1 and 2 hair scissors are characterised extra by the high-quality workmanship and long-lasting sharpness of the blades due to the 440C Japanese steel. GogiPet uses only the best steel for its dog scissors, just as it is used for high-quality pocket knives. Softer steels are used in the industrial production of hair scissors in factories, as the scissor halves are stamped out of sheet steel using dies. The special 440C steel used by GogiPet® is far too hard and expensive for this purpose, so many scissor manufacturers only refer to the steel in a very unspecific way to disguise inferior quality. When buying a good pair of dog scissors, you should therefore always look for an embossing with 440C or Japanese Stainless Steel. If this is missing, you can assume that you are dealing with a cheap steel such as 440A or 440B, which quickly leads to wear. Even GogiPet class 3 dog scissors have this quality mark. Class 1 and 2 dog scissors are even smoother and optically more finely finished than class 3 hair scissors, but this is basically a matter of taste and feeling. Please note, however, that only you and no other person works with the dog clippers.
