Personal experience with clippers
Personal experience with clippers in the clipper comparison
Our experience with the pet clippers is based on reports and experiences in our dog salon, our pet groomer partners, our pet groomer school, our customers (both pet groomers, veterinarians and private users) and our well-known dog breeders.
Top clippers for professionals:
- Heiniger Opal
- Heiniger Saphir
- Heiniger Onyx
- Andis corded clippers
- Andis cordless clippers
- Andis hybrid clippers
- Aesculap Favorita
- Aesculap Fav5
- GogiPet Orate
For pet groomers who work continuously, these clippers are likely the only suitable options. You can use these clippers without hesitation for continuous operation. So far, we have had almost no repairs, even though they are our best‑selling clippers.
Differences between the leading pet clippers:
The Heiniger Opal has now pushed all other clippers from first place. It is the best‑selling battery‑powered clipper, and Heiniger also offers a 2‑year warranty. In terms of speed, noise level, and battery performance, the Heiniger Opal is unbeatable. Closely following in second place are the Heiniger Saphir models, which essentially differ only in design and equipment; the Saphir clippers themselves are technically identical. New: Since 2026, Heiniger has expanded the range with the Heiniger Onyx corded clipper with 2 speeds, which prevents tangling thanks to its rotating cable and impresses with another innovative development from Switzerland.
The new generation of Andis clippers has also significantly improved in terms of quality and has now pushed Aesculap, the former leader, into third place. With the Andis beSpoke, there is for the first time a clipper that can be charged wirelessly. The Andis Pulse ZR II generation offers 5 speeds and can be optimally adjusted for sensitive animals, and the Andis eMERGE completes the hybrid (battery and corded) clipper range at a particularly affordable price.
Aesculap Favorita clippers with the specially developed Slide blade system are especially popular among dog groomers who are already familiar with this system. They, as well as the Aesculap Fav5 clippers with Snap‑On blade system, stand out due to their metal oscillating lever, which protects against wear for a very long time even in continuous operation.
As an additional secondary clipper, the GogiPet Orate hybrid clipper is very popular because it is particularly lightweight and easy to handle. The GogiPet Orate dog clipper is mainly used for small trimming tasks and is the only clipper in its class that features interchangeable blades in different lengths. Many dog groomers also use the GogiPet Orate for full grooming on small, mat‑free dogs. It convinces with its ease of use and significantly simplifies grooming.
Top clippers for breeders:
- GogiPet Orate
- Andis corded clippers
- Andis hybrid clippers
- Heiniger Onyx
- Heiniger Saphir clippers
- Optimum Ultra
- Aesculap Durati
- Oster Golden A5
- Wahl KM2
- AGC
The ideal clippers for breeders and part‑time dog groomers are the slightly more affordable models that still deliver excellent performance. Breeders who use clippers for small breeds or only for partial trimming are particularly enthusiastic about the GogiPet Orate, as it is extremely lightweight and, with its specially developed blades, performs well even on slightly longer hair. Since breeders usually do not use a clipper for full grooming on a regular basis, a corded clipper such as the Heiniger Onyx or Heiniger Saphir Cord is preferred. Apart from being lighter, these clippers also have significantly lower maintenance costs, because a battery that is not used regularly tends to fail prematurely. Fans of cordless clippers appreciate the Heiniger Saphir models or the Aesculap Durati. The absolute insider tip from our dog groomers for these Snap‑On clippers are the GogiPet Titan ceramic clip blades and the GogiPet Premium clipper blades. They run the smoothest, do not heat up as quickly, and the blade can be easily replaced when it becomes dull—without having to send the entire blade head to a sharpening service.
Differences between the professional pet clippers:
GogiPet dog clippers are particularly known for their excellent price‑performance ratio and stand for outstanding quality.
The Heiniger Saphir clippers from Switzerland have been known for their high standards for many years and offer not only warranty but also a 2‑year guarantee.
The Andis corded clippers with 2 speeds impress with their excellent price within the professional clipper class. The also very affordable Andis hybrid clippers are extremely maneuverable and can be used with a cord if needed, eliminating battery issues entirely.
The Aesculap Durati clipper has been improved with a higher stroke rate. However, unlike the long‑established Aesculap small‑animal clippers, the Durati features a plastic oscillating lever.
Due to the relatively high number of complaints, we no longer carry Oster, Wahl, Moser, and AGC clippers and instead focus on top‑quality dog clippers, as the well‑being of the animals and proper grooming are especially important to us.
Clippers for private users:
- GogiPet Orate
- Heiniger Onyx
- Heiniger Saphir clippers
- Andis hybrid clippers
- Optimum Ultra
- Aesculap Durati
For small dog breeds and cat breeds, the GogiPet Orate is the most appreciated. With proper use, a full-body grooming is also possible, even though the GogiPet Orate was designed as a partial-area clipper. Since even professional groomers like to use this clipper for full grooming on small dog breeds, GogiPet has developed longer special blades for the Orate, as the included attachment combs are mainly suitable for human hair. When it comes to fine work and partial trimming, the GogiPet Orate definitely leads the way because it is particularly small and lightweight. For small dogs and cats, it can even be used for full grooming if they are thoroughly bathed, brushed, and combed.
The Optimum Ultra, Heiniger Onyx, and Heiniger Saphir Cord are also excellent clippers, but due to their higher prices, they are not as commonly chosen by private users. If you use the clipper very frequently, a cordless clipper may be suitable, such as the particularly affordable Heiniger Saphir dog clippers with a single battery. However, if you only use the clipper occasionally, we recommend a corded clipper, as batteries wear out quickly when they are not used regularly. If you cannot decide between cordless or corded operation, the Andis eMERGE models are the best choice, as they can be used both with and without a cable. Forgetting to charge the battery becomes a thing of the past with hybrid clippers. Wahl and Moser machines have been removed from our range due to poor feedback.
Differences between high-quality dog clippers:
GogiPet Orate: For small dog breeds and cat breeds or as a partial-area clipper. The hybrid clipper can be operated with a battery or directly via power cable. Special blades available.
Heiniger Onyx and Saphir: Top Swiss quality with a 2‑year warranty.
Andis Hybrid: Corded or cordless operation depending on the workload, suitable for all coat types.
Aesculap Durati: After its release, the Aesculap Durati was the number one bestseller among private users due to the strong Aesculap brand name. However, due to recurring issues, the Durati has lost significant relevance and slipped to last place. Nevertheless, it is still considered a professional-grade clipper.
Paw clippers:
Paw clippers are particularly lightweight, quiet, and low‑vibration. These small clippers are primarily used for safely trimming the hair between the paw pads and are especially known for their barely noticeable vibration, ensuring the grooming process does not tickle. They are also very helpful for smooth trimming of ears, muzzles, armpits, the intimate and anal area, as well as for removing knots that cannot be brushed out.
Differences between paw clippers:
The GogiPet Tornado Hybrid has risen to the top, being the only paw clipper with 3 speed settings, allowing it to be adjusted for particularly sensitive animals. It can also be operated with a cable in addition to battery mode, ensuring it is always ready for use.
The GogiPet Orate actually belongs to the partial‑area clippers, but for larger dogs it is also frequently used as a paw clipper because its wider blade allows faster work. It also offers multiple speeds and can be operated both with battery and cable.
The Heiniger Style Mini features an extra‑narrow blade, is very powerful, and is one of the lowest‑vibration paw clippers on the market. We have been using it for several years in our partner grooming salons, and replacement blades are only ordered occasionally because the carbon steel is extremely hard and durable. The blade can be changed without tools.
The Aesculap Exacta and Aesculap Isis are two identical machines that differ only in appearance. Their quality is equivalent to the Heiniger Style Mini, but an included hex key is required to change the blade.
Partial‑area clippers:
Clippers for fine work, finishing, show preparation, facial trimming, and clippers used by groomers and veterinarians for smaller tasks and close shaving. Smaller dogs with simple and well‑prepared coats can also be fully clipped. All partial‑area clippers feature an adjustable blade and attachment combs. They are primarily characterized by their maneuverability, light weight, and the option to operate them with either cable or battery.
Differences between partial‑area clippers:
The GogiPet Orate is the only partial‑area clipper for which blades in different lengths are available. Therefore, it is not only suitable as a partial‑area clipper but can also be used as a small‑animal clipper for smaller dogs with well‑maintained coats. The attachment combs are suitable for human hair and are also used by hairdressers. With 5 speed levels, it can be optimally adjusted for particularly sensitive pets, and with a runtime of up to 8 hours, it is unbeatable.
The Heiniger Style Midi impresses with its ergonomic shape and exceptional design, making it a real eye‑catcher in any grooming salon. It comes with 5 attachment combs that are perfect for finishing work.
The Andis Vida features a USB‑C connection and can also be operated directly via USB‑C. It comes with 6 attachment combs and can be expanded with 8 color‑coded combs.
The Aesculap Akkurata and Aesculap Vega are identical and differ only in design. Both clippers come with 5 attachment combs suitable for finishing work.
The Optimum clippers complete the range. These machines have also proven themselves exceptionally well.
